Mary, the Conjure Woman #1

In traditional iconography, the washing of the feet scene is usually written as Jesus washing the disciples’ feet, with religious commentary favoring the image of Jesus, the master/leader, becoming a humble servant within his community. Byzantine Hoodoo has reimagined the washing of the feet icon as the woman (Mary of Bethany) anointing Jesus' feet with oil from her alabaster jar, illustrating Mary as a conjure woman preparing Jesus to overcome the penal punishment he faced.
